Andrea Dalessandro was born and raised in New Jersey but has called Sahuarita home since 2004. Even though her parents were of modest means, she was given the opportunity to attend college and became a mathematics teacher. A scholarship to Jersey City State College covered the tuition and numerous part time jobs covered fees, books and transportation.
Andrea learned sound budgeting from her stay-at-home mom and a strong work ethic from her World War II Army veteran father who worked as a carpenter on the railroad.
After graduating from college, Andrea taught high school mathematics at an inner city school for more than a decade and continued her education with a master’s degree in mathematics with additional courses in school supervision and administration. While still in her 20s, Andrea was proud of the purchase of her first home.
Andrea attended Rutgers University and earned a Masters of Business Administration in Professional Accounting. While at Rutgers she received grants from IBM and later worked as a Certified Public Accountant for Price Waterhouse. Because of Andrea’s knowledge of tax policy she was recruited by and worked for several major corporations.
Returning to teaching in the 1980s, Andrea combined her skill at teaching mathematics with her knowledge of accounting, to provide students at Rutgers University with real-world hands-on education.
When she retired from teaching and moved to Arizona, Andrea continued to operate a tax practice.
Concerned with what was going in the Arizona State Legislature in 2005, Andrea began traveling to all parts of LD 30 to connect with constituents. All she needed were new front brakes and tires which husband, Andy, provided, along with a GPS. Andy is a Marine Corps veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam and is a retired Letter Carrier.
Not only has Andrea traveled the district, she has also attended so many sessions of the state legislature in Phoenix that she has been accused of being a lobbyist. Andrea’s response: “You could call me a citizen lobbyist. As the representative of Legislative District 30, I intend to be the ears and the voice of the residents of the district.”
Andrea has one daughter, a neonatal intensive care nurse who recently received her Nurse/Midwife license. Andrea is the grandmother of five. Andrea and Andy live with their two dogs they adopted from a shelter, Dixie and Jenny.
